In 1979, Blackie Swart established his own practice, known as Blackie Swart Architects. His son, Andre Swart, completed his architectural studies at the University of Pretoria, joined the practice in 1989 and became actively involved on a variety of projects – ranging from individual homes, apartment blocks and housing schemes to hospitals, factories, shopping centres and recreational projects.

Over the course of 13 years, Andre became more specialised in particular architectural fields such as multi-residential, retail and commercial. In 2002, Swart & Associates Architects was established as an associate firm of Blackie Swart Architects, under the management of Andre Swart. Today the company celebrates more than 20 years of successful projects and unique design approaches.
